I tried to avoid the family business by starting careers in a number of fields. I learned about a number of businesses in the process as well as a lot about myself. I think going about it this way has helped me build a stronger business.

Short on cash, I helped out with the family painting business. After a year or so, I started getting pretty good at it. Next thing you know, I’m getting referrals for my work. Eventually, I got enough business to start on my own, and here we are.

I think I’ve been successful because I look at each job as if it were my house or my office. If I notice something that’s not right, I can’t rest until I make it right. If I don’t, I’ll go crazy. That’s the way I’ll take on your project. It won’t be done until it’s done right.
